Face-to-Face Befriending
Befrienders are volunteers who are matched on a one-to-one basis
with an older or disabled adult who needs some company.
A befriender is often the only person in the life of an individual
who is not paid to be there and so plays an invaluable role in helping someone feel less isolated and alone and can open up
a window to the outside world.
We train volunteers to visit/spend time with older people within
East Dunbartonshire. Befrienders meet new people, learn different skills and give something back. All Befrienders are reimursed
out of pocket expenses.
Telephone Befriending
We understand that face-to-face Befriending is not
for everyone that's why we established this service. Volunteers are trained to offer a supportive phone call, once a week,
to an older person within East Dunbartonshire.
Letter/Card Writing Befriending
Many people feel isolated or lonely and receiving
a card or handwritten letter can make their day. We train volunteers to provide a card for that special occasion or a letter
to make many people feel that they are still part of our community.
Befriending is an
exchange. In return for your individual attention and support you will:
- Meet new people
- Gain experience
- Build confidence
- Develop new skills/rekindle old ones
- Make a valuable contribution to local communities
